The American Red Cross Learning Management System (LMS)
Accessing the LMS from any computer with an Internet connection allows you to register for and complete online self-study courses at your own pace. You will also register for instructor-led courses through the LMS, and the system allows you to keep track of your learning history too.
If you have been through Volunteer Orientation or have taken any Red Cross class in the Sacramento area within the past year or so, you probably have an LMS account and student number. If you don't know your student number, please call 916-993-7060.
The Learning Management System (LMS): Logging In
- Here is the address for the LMS site click here for course schedule.
- Once you are at the site, you may click on the Login button to the left of the screen, then enter your student number and password. If you have trouble at that point, don't click on the self-register button and create a new account. Instead, contact the This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Creating multiple accounts in LMS is not a good thing because your learning history may get scattered among the accounts.
- Once you are logged in, you may make any changes to your data in the account, such as adding phone numbers, an email address, etc. LMS communicates through email and identifies you by both your name and your address, so it’s particularly important to put that information into your account.
To Register for Classes Through LMS
- Once you have logged in, go to the Catalog by clicking on the button on the left side of the screen.
- To see the disaster courses being offered, select B1 -- Disaster Courses -- from the drop-down menu in the middle of the page. Usually whatever course you are looking for will be in this list. However, some courses that we offer regularly will not appear in that list, such as Working with Total Diversity. So searching for Instructor-Led courses or using the search for the name of the course would work better in a case like that.
- Once you find the course you want to take, click on the small red cross to the left of it to see if/when it is scheduled. If there are several instances listed, be sure that you pick the one at the location you want on the date you want.
- Click Add to Cart for the course you want. Then return to the Catalog and follow this same procedure for any other courses for which you want to enroll.
- Once you have added all the courses to your shopping cart, click Checkout to complete the enrollment process.
- Confirm the courses on the Order Summary screen and click Place Order to complete your course registration.
- If you wish, you may then click the Development Plan button in the menu on the left of the screen to see the list of courses for which you have enrolled.
For On-Line Self-Paced Classes
You register for online courses just as you do for the ones led by an instructor. To actually begin taking an online class, log in at the LMS site and then click on Begin/Continue Course next to the course name in your Development Plan. You may work on the course as much as you have time for, then exit, and return to continue later. LMS will keep track of where you are.
Some hints that help with the online classes:
- A PC works better than MAC.
- Allow cookies and pop-ups.
- Update to the latest version of JAVA.
- Use Internet Explorer as the browser.
